About the Artist – Chitra Singh
Chitra Singh holds over 30 years of experience in the fields of painting and sculpture, she holds 15 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 50 group exhibitions in India and abroad. She had been the recipient of multiple prestigious awards and holds a Master’s degree in Drawing and Painting from CCS, Meerut University, India. Chitra was awarded Senior Fellowship with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Through her paintings, she shows her way of thinking, feelings and emotions. She is inspired and motivated to paint both, the good and the bad; Chitra feels that there is indeed always some sort of feeling in everything we do, see, hear, and touch. She uses cool and warm, both colours and tones in my landscape painting. The spatial qualities of a landscape are also affected by colour. Cool colours tend to recede in the landscape, or seem further away, whereas warm colours advance, or appear closer. Cool colours invoke images of the sky, ocean, and nature, and induce feelings of calmness and serenity in my landscape, as the same warm colours function to give the viewer information about the scene they are looking at. For example, from the temperature of the colours, the viewer may be able to tell the time of day or the heat of the environment. Chitra feels that colours are the most important not only in painting but also in your life. So for her, cool and warm colours are equally important as they are used to create dimension, shadows, and contrast.
